Scheduled Maintenance

Reliability and Longevity


Mechanical equipment of any type needs periodic maintenance. Automatic Standby Generators, with their associated transfer switches, are no different. So to ensure the utmost reliability and longevity from your generator system, a program should be in place to follow the scheduled maintenance items outlined in the owners manual. At Citywide Electric we will gladly explain all options available to you, including performing the preventative maintenance yourself. Naturally we offer various maintenance programs as a service to our customers, giving them the peace of mind of knowing that a factory trained technician familiar with their equipment will be thorough and efficient.


Due to the high levels of moisture in Western Washington and the Puget Sound Region, it is imperative that your standby unit exercise weekly so as to keep the internal components dry. This is accomplished automatically. The generator will start and run every week at the same time for approximately 12 to 20 minutes, depending on the model. Automatically!


During this exercise mode it does not transfer power over to house or business. Generac offers some generators with a special feature which allows them to operate in a Quiet-Test™ mode, in which RPM's are reduced during exercise, lowering sound levels and increasing longevity. Regular maintenance is important to ensure that the exercise function operates consistently. Which means you are ready for the next power outage.

Part of the service that Citywide Electric provides with a maintenance contract is a periodic mailer reminding you to observe and verify the weekly function of your generator exercising at the usual time. In the event of any problems, we are just a phone call away.
